North Hykeham is where our visiting care rounds up the A46 finish. We visit people at home here and in Witham St Hughs, Bassingham and Swinderby, helping with washing, dressing, meals, medicines and company. The Care Quality Commission rates us Good.
We are a family-run provider with our office at 65 London Road in Newark. The villages on this stretch are around nine or ten miles from the office, and North Hykeham itself is about 14. Some of our carers already live on this side of the county line, and we are hiring more.
North Hykeham is not Lincoln
North Hykeham runs into Lincoln with no gap between them, and plenty of people give it a Lincoln address. It is a town of its own, with its own town council and about 16,800 residents at the 2021 Census. It sits in North Kesteven district, not the City of Lincoln.
That decides who you ring when you need help with care:
- Care and support: Lincolnshire County Council, on 01522 782155. It carries out the care needs assessment, which can happen at home, in hospital, by video call or over the phone. For an emergency out of hours, the number is 01522 782333.
- Changes to the home: North Kesteven District Council. Its housing renewal officers run Disabled Facilities Grants, which are means-tested and go up to £30,000. The first step is still an occupational therapist assessment, requested from the county council.
The City of Lincoln Council handles neither of these for a North Hykeham address. Witham St Hughs, Bassingham and Swinderby follow the same pattern.
North Kesteven says adaptations can take anywhere from a few weeks to more than a year. If a grab rail or a level-access shower would make visits safer, ask about it at the same time as care.
Care at home in North Hykeham
Care usually starts with the hardest part of the day, often the morning.
- Personal care: getting up, washed and dressed.
- Dementia care at home: familiar faces and a steady routine.
- Companionship care: a regular visit and some company.
- Respite care: a break for the family carer.
- Overnight care: a carer through the night.
- Hospital discharge care: visits arranged before someone comes home.

Lincoln County Hospital and local GPs
Lincoln County Hospital, on Greetwell Road, is about five and a half miles from North Hykeham. It is run by United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust and has a 24-hour A&E. Tell us the discharge date and we will plan the first visits.
Richmond Medical Centre on Moor Lane serves North Hykeham, with a second site on Lincoln Road. The Bassingham Surgery on Torgate Lane serves Bassingham and the villages near it. We fit visits around GP and district nurse appointments.
Health funding here runs through NHS Lincolnshire Integrated Care Board, not Nottinghamshire. That includes NHS Continuing Healthcare, which pays the full cost of care for people whose needs are mainly health needs.
