A directly employed job, and a chance to keep your clients
When a care company closes, two things worry good carers at once: their own income, and what happens to the people they look after. Helping at Home is hiring experienced carers across Newark, Grantham, Ollerton, Bingham, Retford and Southwell. We pay £14 an hour, we pay for your travel, and where a client moves to us we try to keep you working with the people you already know. Fill in the short form below, or call 01636 646915.
What we actually pay
Care work is hard, and pay that respects it is the least a good employer can do. Here is ours, in plain figures.
| What | Ours |
|---|---|
| Hourly rate | £14 |
| Travel between visits | Paid as working time |
| Mileage | 30p per mile |
| Bank holidays | Time and a half |
| Christmas Day | Double time |
| DBS check | We pay |
| Care Certificate and training | We pay, and pay you for the time |
| Pension | 3% employer contribution |
We fund NVQ Level 3 and Level 5 for carers who want to progress. Two of our team, Megan and Charlotte, started as care assistants and now lead parts of the service. Your training certificates are yours to keep, wherever your career goes next.
We’ll try to keep you with your clients
This is the part that matters most when a company folds. The people you visit have got used to you, and you have got used to them. That relationship is worth protecting.
Where one of your clients chooses to move to Helping at Home, and we have capacity in that area, we try to keep you working with them. We cannot promise it every time, and honest is better than hopeful. But it is one of the first things we look at, and it is often possible.
If you tell your clients’ families that you are moving to us, they can ask for you by name. Point them to our page on what to do if your care provider is closing.
Who we’re looking for
You will fit well here if you:
- Have experience of care at home, or a genuine willingness to learn it properly.
- Hold a full UK driving licence and have your own vehicle.
- Have the right to work in the UK without sponsorship.
- Are 18 or over, and happy to complete an enhanced DBS check, which we pay for.
- Want to do the job well, with time to do it, not a stopwatch.
We keep each client’s care team small, usually a maximum of four familiar carers, and visits are a minimum of 30 minutes. You get time to actually care, and the Birdie app keeps families in the loop without endless phone calls.
How to apply
It is quick. Fill in the form below with your details and a line about the clients you support now. Someone from the team will call you back within a few working days, usually sooner. If it looks like a fit, we will arrange a proper conversation, not a form-filling exercise.
Frequently asked questions
Can I bring my current clients with me?
Where a client chooses to move to us and we have capacity in that area, we try to keep experienced carers with the people they already support. We cannot promise it in every case, but continuity is one of the first things we look at. Tell us who you support and we will try.
What does Helping at Home pay carers?
We pay £14 an hour, above the Real Living Wage. Travel time between visits is paid as working time, and mileage is paid at 30p per mile. Bank holidays are paid at time and a half, and Christmas Day at double time.
Do I need a car to work for you?
Yes. Our carers visit people in their own homes across Newark and the surrounding villages, so you need a full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle. We pay for the miles you drive between visits.
Will I have to redo all my training?
No. We recognise the experience you already have. Where you need a new DBS check or the Care Certificate, we pay for it and pay you for the time. Your training certificates stay yours to keep.
Are you an agency?
No. Every carer at Helping at Home is directly employed by us. We never use agency or contractor staff, which is why continuity for both carers and clients is something we can actually protect.
