The hospital that isn’t in Nottinghamshire’s health system
Bassetlaw District General Hospital is in Worksop, but it is run by Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, based across the border in South Yorkshire. The same trust runs Doncaster Royal Infirmary, Montagu Hospital and Retford Hospital.
This catches families out. Someone can live in Nottinghamshire and pay council tax to Bassetlaw District Council. Their social care comes from Nottinghamshire County Council. Their hospital care comes from a South Yorkshire NHS trust. Three different bodies, three sets of paperwork, and nobody joins them up for you.
For a discharge, the practical point is that the hospital discharge team and the council social work team sit in different organisations in different counties. Getting live-in care in place before the discharge date is what stops that gap becoming a crisis.
Live-in care usually takes one to two weeks to arrange, because matching the right carer matters far more when that person will be living in the house. Which council you deal with
Adult social care in Worksop is Nottinghamshire County Council, not Bassetlaw District Council. The district handles housing, bins and planning. Care assessments and funding sit with the county.

Where health needs are the main reason care is required, NHS Continuing Healthcare is assessed by the integrated care board rather than the council. It covers the full cost for those who qualify. Care is exempt from VAT under the welfare services rules. The client provides the carer’s room and shares meals, so there is no separate accommodation charge. Break cover, where needed, is an additional charge confirmed at assessment.

Employed, not introduced
Most live-in care marketing reaching Worksop comes from two kinds of business.
