Yes, we are based in Newark. Here is why that doesn’t matter
It’s a fair question, so we’ll answer it before you have to ask.
Our hourly visiting service works to a travel radius around Newark, because carers drive between calls and travel time is paid. Live-in care is a different arrangement. The carer lives in the client’s home for the length of the placement. They aren’t commuting from Newark each morning, so the distance changes nothing about the care that happens in your parent’s kitchen at eight o’clock.
The one part distance does affect is break cover. Every live-in carer has a protected daily break, and where a client cannot safely be left alone during it, a second carer comes in. That carer needs to live near the placement, so we recruit locally for it. At assessment we tell you whether we can staff it in your part of the city. If we cannot, we say so rather than promising and hoping.
Where in Nottingham we provide live-in care

Live-in care is also available in the areas that carry a Nottingham address but sit outside the city boundary. That includes West Bridgford, Ruddington and Keyworth in Rushcliffe. That boundary is worth understanding, because it decides which council you deal with.
Which council you apply to, and why people get it wrong
Nottingham City Council is a unitary authority. That means it runs its own adult social care, for about 324,000 people inside the city. It is quite separate from the county council.
So a family in Clifton applies to the city council. A family in West Bridgford, two miles away with a Nottingham postcode, applies to the county council. Same city, same accent, different council, different waiting list.
The areas most often caught out:
- West Bridgford, Ruddington, Keyworth, Cotgrave are Rushcliffe, so Nottinghamshire County Council.
- Arnold, Carlton, Netherfield, Calverton are Gedling, so Nottinghamshire County Council.
- Beeston, Chilwell, Stapleford, Kimberley are Broxtowe, so Nottinghamshire County Council.
- Clifton, Wollaton, Bulwell, Sherwood, Basford, Bilborough are inside the city, so Nottingham City Council.
Both councils run the same two-stage process. First a needs assessment, to work out what support is required. Then a financial assessment, to work out what you pay. Our local authority funding page covers the savings limits.
Where health needs are the main reason care is required, the route may be NHS Continuing Healthcare instead. That is assessed by the integrated care board, not by either council. It covers the full cost of care for people who qualify.
Live-in care after a hospital stay
Nottingham is served by the Queen’s Medical Centre and Nottingham City Hospital, both part of Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. A discharge that depends on someone being safe at home overnight is one of the most common reasons families start looking at live-in care.
Be aware of the timing. Live-in care usually takes one to two weeks to arrange, because matching the right carer matters far more when that person will be living in the house. Tell us the expected discharge date at the first call and we will tell you whether we can meet it. Care is exempt from VAT under the welfare services rules. The client provides the carer’s room and shares meals, so there is no separate accommodation charge. Break cover, where it is needed, is an additional charge confirmed at assessment alongside the weekly figure.

Independent, and employed
Search live-in care in Nottingham and most of what comes back is one of two things.
Introductory agencies match you with a self-employed carer and charge for the introduction. Several of the biggest live-in brands work this way and are not registered with the Care Quality Commission to provide personal care themselves.
Franchise branches trade under a national name. Each one is a separate business with its own owner, its own staff and its own CQC rating. The rating you read on the national website may not be the rating of the branch that would send someone.
